Coaching Staff

Head Varsity
Jim McNamara-This will be Coach McNamara's sixth season as the varsity head coach.  He is looking forward to his 25th season coaching basketball in Pine Island, having coached at the youth, junior high and junior varsity level.  He also was the varsity assistant for seven years.  Career Varsity coaching record of 73-60, including the 2017  HVL Gold division title.  Married to Tonja for 35 years and they have 5 children and 7 grandchildren.

Varsity Assistant
Scott Nelson-Native of Kenyon, graduating in 1980.  Did undergraduate work at St. Olaf College.  Have had teaching/coaching stints in Delano, Spring Valley, Byron and Pine Island totaling 32 years.  Was head boys basketball coach at Kingsland High School from 1989-97.  Got Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Winona State University.  Married 26 years and have two children.

Junior Varsity
Jason McNamara-Graduated from Pine Island in 2002. Went to college at RCTC and Southwest Minnesota State University. I have a degree in Physical Education and have a minor in Adaptive Physical Education and Coaching. I have coached for 17 years and this will be my 11th year coaching basketball. I have coached at Pine Island, Minneota, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Kingsland, and Red Rock Central. Currently working as a paraprofessional at Pine Island.

C Team
Alex Robideau -Graduated from Northfield in 2011. He then went on to graduate from Minnesota State University Mankato. Worked as a paraprofessional in Nicollet, Minnesota. Coached junior varsity basketball and varsity baseball in Nicollet for two years. He’s new to the town of Pine Island and is excited to begin coaching. 

8th Grade
Michael Downie-Graduated from Lourdes High school in 1999 and played basketball for 8 years in their system.  First year as head coach and first year in the Pine Island district.   My wife and I have 2 little boys and we have made our home in Pine Island for 6 years!  I am excited to be a Pine Island Panther!

7th Grade
Wyatt Nelson-This will be Coach Nelson's fifth season coaching, fourth in Pine Island. He graduated from Byron in 2014. Currently going to school, working on a degree in Elementary Education.
