Announcements for December 12:

*Legion Oratorical Contest- On January 15th at 3:30 the Legion will be hosting an oratorical contest. Students who are interested in giving a speech on people's rights as citizens concerning the Constitution should stop in to see Mr. Smith for details. The legion awards cash prizes for the top three finishers!

*Pine Island Trap Team- If you are a current member, or plan on joining the Pine Island Trap Team please stop to see Mr. Smith. We are ordering Jerseys for the season. These are optional, but if you would like to purchase one I need your order this week. I have sample jerseys in my room to try on.

*The HVL-TRC Showdown is this Saturday at Mayo Civic Center. Panther Girls Basketball play Rushford-Peterson at 9:00am and Panther Boys Basketball play La Crescent at 10:45. We were told by the Mayo Civic Center that it is going to be a VERY busy weekend in downtown Rochester and parking may be a mess.

*Hello students and parents!

We are excited to report that our 12 Days of Giving fundraiser is in full swing! We are so thankful for everyone's generosity thus far!  This year for 12 DOG we really want to focus on how we can give back to our community and get the community involved in what we are doing in the high school.  We are donating to 4 local organizations this year; Pine Island Area Home Services, Pine Island Food Shelf, Panther Holiday Helpers, and Pine Haven Care Center. Our kickoff went really well and we were able to raise $412! Our goal for the year is $4000 and we need your help to get there! An anonymous donor has also agreed to match the amount for anything that we raise over $2500!!!!!  We wanted to send out a couple of quick reminders for what's going on and ways that you and/or your child can participate and donate to reach this goal!

- Dogs!

  • As this event is also nicknamed 12 DOG, we will be having service dogs come in tomorrow during lunch and P25! (Thursday the 12th) It will be a donation of $1 to enter, and students can spend as much time with them as they would like! Sounds Ruff, right?

- Coin Wars

  • This is a competition between high school grades to fill buckets full of coins for their own grade and paper money in other grades' buckets. All coins donated count toward a positive total for each grade, and all paper bills count as a negative balance for the grade. Buckets are placed in the commons area during school hours. Remember, the best way to have your grade win is to place paper bills in the opposing grades' bucket, hence the title Coin Wars.

- Paranoia Tickets $2

  • Paranoia is a game of mystery tag played throughout the school day (yes, the principal is allowing tag this time of year!). Each student will have one person that they are looking to tag, and someone that is looking to tag them. Sign up to participate will be at lunchtime through Friday and the game will begin on Monday. Tag, you're it!

- Candy Grams $1

  • You can send a candy cane to anyone in the 5-12 building. They will be sold through Thursday, and will be delivered by an Elf during P25 time! With each candy gram, you can write a message and we will attach a candy cane for your recipient!

- Panther Holiday Helpers

  • Panther Holiday Helpers is a program run by Community Ed.  We have families in our community with children that are in need of holiday assistance and we would like to help out.  Above please find the link for the list of gifts (and delivery instructions).  You may drop these gifts off at the high school or bring them to the bank as the form states. If they are brought to the school feel free to bring them to the office or put them under the tree by the commons area. Because we are having a friendly competition between the grades to see who is the most giving, please indicate which grade(s) your family represents. If there is not a grade posted, it will go to the grand total.

- Chicken Bingo Tickets $5

  • Chicken bingo is a very unique game in which numbered cards are placed on the floor in the cage of a real chicken (yep, a real live chicken!) and whichever number the chicken "does it's business" on will receive 20% of the profits from the bingo ticket sales. Tickets can be purchased at lunch, at high school sporting events and music concerts. Chicken bingo tickets will be sold through next Wednesday.

- Food Shelf Collection

  • Our local food shelf is always looking for support and we are hoping to help stock the shelves.  We are asking that students please bring in non perishable food items. These items can be dropped off in a bag or box underneath the Christmas tree, or given to the high school office. We ask that, just like the panther holiday helpers, you put the grade(s) your family represents as this will allow for the donation to be added to that grade's total.

- Family Movie Night!

  • Please come and join us for Family Movie Night...FREE!  This is a new event this year and we are really excited!  Movie night will be held at the high school on Saturday, December 14th at 6:00 pm. We invite everyone to bring pillows/blankets and come enjoy a movie with popcorn! We will be selling concessions, but popcorn is free! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!!

Please consider participating in these activities and choosing some way to donate to this cause.  We hope that everyone takes the time to think about where their donation will go, how it will help someone and bring some holiday cheer! This season is about giving and we would like to give back locally as much as we can.

Thank you and Happy Holidays,
Pine Island High School Student Council
