Here is some additional information about the specific databases for high school students:

Academic Search Premier: This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for more than 4,600 journals, including full text for nearly 3,900 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.  


Alt HealthWatch: This database focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It offers libraries full text articles for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed journals and reports. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. Alt HealthWatch provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine. This database features indexing and abstracts going back as far as 1984, and full text going back as far as 1990.  

Britannica High School:  Britannica Online School Edition gives teachers and students access to four encyclopedias that ensure consistency with classroom topics and age-appropriate language. Designed for all levels of learning, Britannica Online School Edition offers students a gateway to the resources of Encyclopaedia Britannica.

Consumer Health Complete: Consumer Health Complete is a comprehensive resource for consumer-oriented health content. It is designed to support patients' information needs and foster an overall understanding of health-related topics. Consumer Health Complete provides content covering all areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine. In addition, Consumer Health Complete includes the Clinical Reference System and the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which provides access to up-to-date, concise and clinically relevant drug monographs. The database is updated on a weekly basis.  

Discovering Collection

The Discovering Collection is designed with the student in mind. It is comprised of more than 28,000 biographies, 18,000 overview essays, and more than 13,500 critical essays in core curriculum subjects. All of the information is pulled directly from Gale reference materials and explores literature, history, biography, science, and social studies with comprehensive content easily accessible by even the most novice researchers.

Expanded Academic ASAP

Expanded Academic ASAP® is comprised of more than 3,500 indexed and full-text titles—of which 2,100 are peer-reviewed—in all disciplines including social sciences, humanities, education, science, and technology. More than 20 years of backfile coverage and an intuitive interface expedite successful searches.

General Science Collection

General Science Collection contains over 200 journals covering the latest scientific developments in particle physics, advanced mathematics, nanotechnology, geology, and hundreds of other areas.

Health Source®: Consumer Edition is a collection of consumer health information. This resource provides access to nearly 80 full-text, consumer health magazines; full text for current, health-related pamphlets; and more than 130 health reference books. 


¡Informe! is a database reference tool providing indexing, images and full text of popular Hispanic magazines—not just translations. Also included is a thesaurus and interface that are uniquely designed for Spanish-speaking users. 

MasterFILE Premier:  Designed for public libraries and K-12 schools, MasterFILE Premier contains full text for 1,700 periodicals covering general reference, business, health, education, general science, multicultural issues, and much more. This database also contains full text for nearly 500 reference books, over 160,000 primary source documents, and an image collection of photos, maps, and flags.

MAS Ultra - School Edition: Designed specifically for high school libraries, this database contains full text for nearly 500 popular, high school magazines. MAS Ultra – School Edition also provides more than 360 full text reference books, 85,670 biographies, over 107,000 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of over 510,000 photos, maps & flags, color PDFs and expanded full text backfiles (back to 1975) for key magazines.  

Science Reference Center:  Science Reference Center is a comprehensive research database that provides easy access to a multitude of full text science-oriented content. This database contains full text for nearly 640 science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, etc. Topics covered include: biology, chemistry, earth & space science, environmental science, health & medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science & society, science as inquiry, scientists, technology and wildlife. 

Student Edition

Now with other 1100 titles, cross searchable with E-Books, this periodical database is designed for high-school students with access to a variety of indexed and full-text magazines, newspapers, podcasts, and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, histroy, sports and more.

Student Research Center:
Helps middle and high school students find magazine and journal articles, reference materials, and multimedia files covering all topics. Contains the following databases: Health Source-Consumer 
Edition; MAS Ultra-School Edition; Middle Search Plus; and Science Reference Center. Intended for grades 6-12. 

Student Resources In Context

Student Resources In Context is designed for use by high school students for both homework and in-depth research assignments. It contains a searchable database of reference works, biographies, essays, overviews, primary works, images, and periodical articles from literary, science, health, history, and biography resources.
